Director of Music Ministry (Part-Time)
Purpose
The Music Director is responsible to the Church and supervised by the Music Committee for the development and promotion of the Music Ministry.
The Music Director will organize and lead the Music Ministry and assist the Pastor in all worship services, special events, and programs as assigned.
Education, Skills, and Abilities

Understand the importance of music as part of the church's ministry, spiritual life and
outreach.

Understand that the position is a ministry and offering to God and community and not
simply a performance.

Display a professional level of musical talent from training and experience.

Have a thorough working knowledge of the congregation’s worship services and a
theological understanding of church music.

Communicate well and in a friendly manner with the pastor, worship and music
committee members, church choir, and members of the congregation.
Job Performance Requirements:
-
Lead, direct, plan, conduct, organize and evaluate a comprehensive music program
ranging from traditional to contemporary music including choirs, vocalist, musicians,
handbells, and/or instrumental ensembles

Supervise the work of the organist/pianist.

Assist the pastor in planning worship services.

Arrange and provide music for weddings, funerals, special projects, ministry events and
other church related activities upon request

Plan, organize and promote choir workshops, clinics, programs, trips and outreach for
the various choirs

Supervise the maintenance of the music library, materials, supplies, musical
instruments, and other equipment that is associated with the music ministry

Plan, prepare and oversee the music ministry budget

Invest 6-10 hours per week in preparation and/or on-site practices and services.

Perform other related duties as assigned
Skills & Knowledge Requirements
- Strong leadership skills with a spirit and attitude for excellence.

Effective planning, organizational and time management skills
-
Experience in directing and teaching the music, singing, and/or playing musical
instruments.

Ability to play hymns and special music on the keyboard, organ and/or piano.
-
Ability to read or sight-read music.
-
Ability to provide training to improve the quality of the choirs and musicians.
-
Arrange, select and coordinate choirs and songs for services and events.
-
Keep abreast of new songs, choirs and artists in the gospel industry.
Job Expectations

The applicant shall rehearse sufficiently to maintain a high quality of music.

An annual performance review will be done.

The applicant shall seek professional relationships with other church musicians and keep abreast of developments in worship and liturgy through associations, continuing education, and professional church publications.
Leave and Professional Development
Evaluation
Performance reviews will be conducted annually by the Music Committee with the input from the Pastor. The Stewardship Committee, with recommendations from the Music Committee, will annually review the adequacy of compensation.
